The Honourable Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines, announced today that the Ontario Government is investing $2.5 million in the installation of a 300 kW solar / 300 kW storage with controller solution in Fort Severn First Nation.
McDowell Lake First Nation joins a growing number of remote First Nations in Ontario’s far north, which are going green.
NCC has developed a plan to install at 10 kW solar system with a battery solution that will provide the First Nation with an energy source capable of powering the community fridge. Chief Keno will present the plan to her Council in June 2015 for review and approval.
Fort Severn has given the thumbs up for the next stage of solar development in their First Nation.
